WHY IT MATTERS
Until Van Hollen visited the notorious massive prison that was holding Garcia, there were genuine fears that Garcia may no longer be alive.
The case raised a number of important issues that the public need to be aware of.
Firstly, that immigrants are being "disappeared".
Secondly that many of these immigrants are not in the U.S. illegally.
Thirdly, the devastating impact that ICE brutal tactics are having on families and communities.
Fourth, that the administration believes that due diligence is too time consuming - and should therefore be dispensed with.
Fifth, that the administration are willing to invent malignant lies about the victims of their incompetence (or malicious intent) and to manipulate the strong emotions around immigration in order to divide public opinion.
And sixth, that the administration are willing to ignore Supreme court rulings.
Despite earlier claims by Trump and the president of Venezuela that Garcias return was not possible, those involved have managed to have Garcia retuned to the U.S. to attend hearings relating to his rights to remain in the U.S. Great job by many - but this was perhaps the first direct action undertaken.
