WHY IT MATTERS
The U.S. is not alone in having been plagued by conspiracy theories and fake news and domestically (as well as Internationally) imposed misinformation campaigns over the course of the past decade. However, those who emphatically tell us "the end of the world is coming" are not usually highly educated state officials.
Something has changed.
Whether or not we agree with their policies. Whether or not we "like" these people is irrelevant.
They are obviously genuinely and seriously concerned about the state of the U.S. right now - and about what they perceive as threats not to their party but to the law, to democracy and to decency.
We need knowledgeable people in positions of power to highlight current injustices.
Landers knows that his clarity of expressing the law "You do not have the authority to arrest U.S. citizens asking for a judicial warrant.
Enemies of our democracy will spin this ... but not is getting harder to do so as ICE are clearly out of control if their bosses are asking them to obey the law - and if they are not being held accountable to the law - well, that is even more concerning for everyone.
