WHY IT MATTERS
It is tempting to believe that those who support Trump are all Nazis. We believe that it is unhelpful to make such broad generalisations. However, that the administration is fascist is indisputable - Fascism has a clear definition - and experts like Snyder are ensuring that this understanding is available to anybody who wishes to educate themselves.
Snyder is also one example of a very significant brain drain resulting from Trump's policies, having moved to Canada. Of course, this does not only affect academics themselves. American Universities are a significant industry - and a centre of excellence that promote technological innovation and prestige Internationally. This, in turn helps to drive trade, develop partnerships, prevent wars, maintain economic strength.
And, of course, the U.S. need our highly trained intellectuals as much as we do our highly trained trades people if we are to compete effectively Internationally.
