WHY IT MATTERS
Awareness of our legal rights is important. We are NOT required to show ID without an “articulable basis” for the reason for asking for it. That’s because such reasons if untrue can be used against toxic officials. If, for example, the officer replied “you fit the description of somebody we are looking for”… they’re in potential hot water if that turns out not to be true!
So this action was wrong- and we deserve to know, as citizens and tax payers, what action has been taken against this officer.
Despite massive protests in response to behaviours by ICE officers, they - like their bosses - still feel untouchable. The violence that the current administration is choosing to encourage and condone is the it is standard MO - and is as far from any sane definition of “GREAT AGAIN” as is possible to be.
whilst ICE agency appears to be run by and full of racist thugs who do not appear to understand that ALL American citizens have rights, most of us do.
Whilst we are seeing more and more of this flouting of rules, we must never become desensitised to it - but rather to work hard to ensure that everyone is made accountable for their actions.
