WHY IT MATTERS
The very people who benefit from this act of are in many cases people who do not like Mike Pence very much! But, let us give credit where credit is due. Standing against trump is clearly too scary for many. Let us not forget that trump, having riled up an angry misinformed crowd, stated that Pence deserved to be hanged!
Trump insisted that Pence, as president of the Senate on January 6th, overturn the electoral votes in order to crown Trump President against the wishes of the American people in 2020. Pence, however, recognised that this request was unconstitutional - and he stood firm.
Pence also bravely remained within the capitol despite clear and imminent danger to his life. Pence was uniquely positioned
to accept or deny Trumps illegal demands - and, thankfully, modelled how ultimately, the courage of just one man can prevent a despot from achieving their broader nefarious goals.
