Padilla has additionally explicitly labelled Trump a Tyrant. It is vital that we speak clearly and directly. The time for holding back contempt for contemptible behaviour in the hope that we can temper Trumps actions is long past. His actions are too dangerous and must be called out by those brave enough to do so.
All those who falsely claim that it is rude to ask questions during a press conference are tacitly saying that it is not allowed to challenge an overt attempt top normalise counter-democratic actions.
This is what being a representative involves. Challenging - transparently - actions that are against the interests of all those you represent.
In doing so, of course, Rep Padilla also inadvertently highlighted the extent to which this administration has already escalated tensions - with both the violent response and subsequent defending of that response and associated blatant lies.
Of course, the sights the world witnessed will further polarise opinions. However, it is the duty of right minded people to resist a clear slide to authoritarianism now - rather than waiting until those who can course correct are powerless to do so. In other words, our resistance must develop as quickly as the move to a dictatorship is happening in America.
