Got to love this guy. He knew - given Trumps early work to prevent non sycophantic press from entering the Oval Office - that he had one shot. And he asked the right question.
Predictably, he was ignored, but what a fantastically relevant question. Because … why do people lie? They do so to deceive. They do so because they are deliberately hiding reality from those (all) of us they are lying to. Because they do not respect nor care for any of us.
And how are we to react? Obviously with a complete lack of trust - and an understanding that the words we hear such a person saying are meaningless.
Yes … we could conclude “they’re all the same”. But that would be lazy - and in this case dangerously so. They are not the same because Whilst most of us lie sometimes, we have a sense of shame that prevents us doing so whenever possible. We also recognise that we are accountable for our behaviour.
Trump does not recognise any accountability to anybody - and this is what makes him a truly terrible leader.
